Business Process Management (BPM)

Effective and efficient organizational processes.

Business Process Management (BPM) is a way of looking at and then controlling the processes that are present in an organization. It is an effective methodology to use in times of crisis to make certain that the processes are efficient and effective, as this will result in a better and more cost efficient organization.
BPM should not be a onetime exercise. It should involve a continuous evaluation of the processes and include taking actions to improve the total flow of processes. The steps that can be recognized in BPM are:

  • Analyze
  • Re-design and model
  • Implement
  • Monitor
  • Manage
  • Automate

This list indicates that most of the work is trying to understand the current situation and then to design and implement a better one. The last step however also indicates that technology has its place here as well, not only as systems on which processes take place, but also as a system that can help with the BPM activities.

BPM solutions offer great benefits to your business:

  • Greater efficiency and cost reduction: By optimizing your business processes your organization gets more efficient and reduces costs.
  • Competitive advantage: Because BPM abstracts business process from technology infrastructure, it goes far beyond automating business processes or solving particular business problems, it enables business to respond to changing consumer, market, and regulatory demands faster than competitors, thereby creating competitive advantage.
  • Transparency: BPM makes a business process absolutely transparent, greatly improving visibility and efficiency. Bottlenecks can literally be seen, and removed. It can show where the most delays are occurring, and where is each transaction stuck as it passes from one stage to another.
  • Process refinement: The initial configuration and design exercise coupled with the data that emerges after running processes for some time can allow refinement.
  • Centralization of Data: Data about each and every transaction is logged and can be retrieved as and when required. Therefore, it is possible to analyze accurately what happened. Referencing is also easier as embedded searches allow for data to be picked up as required for study.
